Hat Trick for Henderson at South Alabama

By Mark Chisum

Cameron Henderson was three for three Saturday night at South Alabama Speedway, winning features in the Super Stock, Street Stock, and Mini Sportsman divisions.

In the Super Stock Feature, Henderson took the lead on lap four and led the rest of the way. Ryan Redmon took the initial lead from the outside pole. Henderson moved into second on the second circuit and took the lead two laps later. Redmon finished second with Corbitt Mosely third. Travis Slawson, making his first start in the Super Stock class, finished fourth. Jason Fowler was fifth.

It took Henderson a little longer to make his way to the front in the Street Stock Feature. Chris Slater grabbed the early lead from the pole. Salter led the way to the races first caution period on lap 13. Henderson had worked his way through the field and was running second by lap eight. When racing resumed, Henderson took the lead from Salter and led the remaining thirteen laps to take the win. Johnny Otto came from the seventh starting spot to finish second. Dennis Thomas was third, followed by Salter and Darrell Cawley, Jr.

Although Henderson started sixth, he led every lap to win the Mini Sportsman Feature. Joshua Sibley chased Henderson all race, but had to settle for second. Joey Cannon crossed the stripe third with Dylan Wolfe fourth and Eddy Hinson fifth. However, Sibley was disqualified in post race inspection, moving everybody up a position. Jason Cannon moved into the top five.

Ryan Redmon took the lead from the outside pole and led all 25 laps to win the Modified Feature. Heath Mills came from the sixth starting spot to take runner up honors. Lance Blacker followed in third. Kevin Peel and Randy Herrick were fourth and fifth.

Phillip Anderson led just one lap in the Vintage Feature, but it was the one that counted. Kip Whitehead took the lead from the pole position with Anderson behind him. The pair battled all race with Whitehead leading the first 19 laps. Finally, on the final circuit, Anderson was able to work his way past Whitehead to take the win. Steve Stewart finished third, followed by Clint Boggs and Ricky Solomon.

Ricky Strickland took the lead on lap four and held off Mike Wolfe to take the win in the Roadrunner Feature. Wolfe was able to beat Strickland to the line to lead lap 11, but Strickland held his ground and regained the lead on the next lap. Strickland led the final nine laps leading Wolfe to the checkers. Bobby Rhodes finished third with Chris Yeakos fourth and Lee McManus fifth.

Lee Rogers picked up another Coyote Feature win. Rogers took the lead from Joseph Chandler on lap six and cruised home with the win. Travis Slawson came from the seventh starting spot to finish second. Chandler led from lap two to lap five, but slid back to third in the final run down. Rusty Locklar finished fourth with Jason Monaghan fifth.

Zak Wallace took the lead on the fourth lap and went on to win the CupLite Feature. Karl Williams led the first lap with Jeremy Peacock leading the next two before Wallace took over. Rick Northey came from the eighth starting spot to finish in the runner up spot. Jack Whittle, Greg Adams, and Waylon Spivey followed.

Action continues on October 2 with feature races in seven local classes. For more information, contact the track at (334) 565-3539, or visit the track’s web site at www.southalabamaspeedway.com.
