Bishop Keeps Streak Alive

By Mark Chisum

Kim Bishop kept his Roadrunner Feature win streak alive Saturday night, taking the lead with four laps to go to take another win. It was Bishop’s 13th win in 14 starts this season. Gary Swanner grabbed the lead from the outside pole and led the first circuit. Ricky Strickland took over on lap two and led for three laps before Chris Yeakos took the point on lap five. Bishop laid back in the first part of the race but began his march to the front as the race reached its halfway point. Bishop moved into second on lap 18 and Yeakos’ lead was erased when the race’s only caution flew on lap 21. Bishop moved around Yeakos on lap 22 and went on to win. Mike Wolfe finished third, followed by David Daniels and Strickland.

Heath Mills took the lead on lap two and pulled away from Mike Daniels to take the win in the Modified Feature. Daniels, starting on the outside pole outran Mills to lead the first lap but Mills took over from there. With the race going green the entire 25 laps, Mills eased away from Daniels, beating him to the checkers by 2.292 seconds. Lance Blacker was third with Mario Lupi fourth and Todd Blackburn fifth. Mills also won the season points championship.

In the Street Stock Feature, Brandon Odom was awarded the win after Jody Henderson failed post race inspection. Henderson and Odom battled all race with Henderson beating Odom to the line to take an apparent win. However, Henderson’s engine had too much compression in post race inspection and the win went to Odom. Henderson’s “dq” moved Johnny Otto up to second with Billy Maxie third, Dennis Thomas fourth, and Lee McManus fifth. Odom was crowned the division’s champion for 2011.

Rusty Locklar took the lead on lap 16 and went on to win the Coyote Feature. Danny Thompson led the first 15 laps before Locklar got by to take the lead. Thompson chased Locklar the rest of the way, but couldn’t regain the top spot. Tony Tidwell was third, Lee Rogers fourth, and Dylan Wolfe fifth.

Jack Whittle led all 25 laps to take the win in the CupLite feature. Waylon Spivey ran second all race but couldn’t find his way to the front. Karl Williams finished third, followed by Carroll Williams and Greg Adams. Adams captured the points title.

Dustin Monday continued on a roll in the Mini Sportsman class, taking his seventh win in a row. Monday took the lead on lap 13 and sped away from the field. Joshua Sibley crossed the line second but was disqualified in post race inspection. Dale McLendon moved up to second with Eddy Hinson third. Kevin Calloway and Donnie Howell rounded out the top five.
